Dhanush has officially postponed the release of his upcoming action thriller OM out of deference and “immense respect” for megastar Rajinikanth. The film, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, was originally scheduled to hit theatres on October 16, 2026 — just a day after Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated sequel Jailer 2 arrives on October 15.
To avoid a box-office clash and ensure the superstar’s project gets clear breathing room, Dhanush took to social media to announce that he has deferred his film’s release. He also confirmed that OM will skip the Diwali release window.
In a gesture of industry solidarity, Dhanush noted that actor Suriya’s upcoming film Scene had already locked in the festive date, and that big-budget films should respect prior commitments in the overall interest of Tamil cinema. A new worldwide release date for OM is expected to be announced shortly.
