Dheeraj, Ganesh Set Sights On 2028 Olympics

International archers Bommadevara Dheeraj and T. Ganesh Maniratnam, who won medals at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, were accorded a welcome at Vijayawada International Airport in Gannavaram on Tuesday.

SAAP officials, Andhra Pradesh Archery Association (APAA) representatives, national and state-level archers and the parents of the medal winners received them. SAAP sports officer L. Venkata Ramana, NTR district sports development officer Kakarla Koteswara Rao and APAA chairman Cherukuri Satyanarayana felicitated the archers.

Dheeraj won a gold medal at a World Cup and two silver medals at the Asian Games in the recurve team and mixed events. Ganesh won gold in the compound team event and bronze in the individual compound event.

Housing, information and public relations minister Kolusu Parthasarathy and revenue, stamps and registration minister Anagani Satya Prasad also congratulated the archers while they were travelling from Vijayawada to their respective districts.

Dheeraj said winning a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics was his goal. Dheeraj said he was undergoing rigorous training and would strive to secure an Olympic berth with a strong performance at the upcoming World Championships. He thanked his parents, APAA chairman Satyanarayana and the state government for their support.

Ganesh said he was targeting an Olympic berth in the mixed event and had intensified his training. He credited his parents, the archery association and the state government for his national and international successes.

APAA office-bearers, coaches, family members and archers from Acharya Nagarjuna University and the Nuzvid academy attended.
