Alan Rothwell passed away at the age of 84

Alan Rothwell passed away at the age of 84 after a short battle with an illness. The actor was a well-known name in the entertainment industry, having appeared in several projects, including Picture Box, Dead Man Weds, Linda, Zeppelin, All Quiet on the Preston Front, A Song for Jenny, The Fool of the World Flying Ship and The Carter Street Hangman, among others. He was admitted to the hospital after some illness; however, the exact details of his illness have not been revealed.

The news of his death was first revealed in a statement from his family, who said Alan Rothwell would be fondly remembered for his professional achievements. Apart from the actor’s family, his close friends also paid tribute to him. The family’s statement could be read as:

“Alan was a professional radio, television, film and stage actor and director whose career spanned more than 70 years. Alan died peacefully in hospital following a short illness. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and the many people whose lives he touched through his work.”

About Alan Rothwell’s early life and career

Alan Rothwell was born on February 9, 1937, in Oldham, Lancashire, United Kingdom. He rose to fame with his role in the much popular soap opera, The Archers in which he played the role of ‘Jimmy Grange’. According to reports, Alan also starred in the spy series, Top Secret and guest-starred in Gideon’s Way. According to reports, his most popular stint was in the soap opera, Coronation Street, where he essayed the role of ‘David Barlow’  through sporadic appearances over eight years, starting in 1960 until his exit in 1968.

However, that is not all; Alan Rothwell also appeared in several other TV shows like Queer as Folk, Alpha Papa, The Musketeers, and All Creatures Great and Small. Apart from acting roles, Alan also gained immense praise for his literary work. He was a published author and wrote books such as Higher Than the Hawk: The Atheists’ Guide to the Afterlife. Alan was truly loved by his fans and his peers. However, while his professional life was brighter than the day, his personal life remained under wraps for the longest of time.

Alan Rothwell and Marjorie Ward didn’t have any children in the six years of their marriage. However, he and Maureen Haydon shared two children, Ben and Tody. They lived a private life. However, according to reports, the actor is now survived by his sons and grandchildren.
