Did Marion Cotillard Deny Affair With Brad Pitt After Angelina Jolie Caught Them Cheating? Find Out

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had one of the messiest celebrity divorces we have seen, despite them once being the ‘IT couple’ of Hollywood. For those unaware, the actor-duo divorced in December 2024, although they are still embroiled in an asset-related suit. At present, their relationship is hogging the spotlight again after their eldest son, Maddox, decided to officially drop his father’s surname, “Pitt”, from his name and filed legal documents for the same. Amid this, Brad Pitt’s cheating scandal with Marion Cotillard has once again surfaced. 

Did Marion Cotillard really have an affair with Brad Pitt? Here’s what the actress said 

At the time of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s separation, the actress had cited ‘irreconcilable differences.’ Although the couple were plagued with many rumours during their brief marriage. One such rumour, which many still believe to be true, is that Angelina caught Brad having an affair with his co-star, Marion Cotillard, and this is what led to their split. 

In September 2016, when rumours about Brad’s affair with Marion were rife, the latter took to her social media to shoot them down. According to The Hollywood Reporter, at the time, Marion Cotillard posted an abstract picture on her Instagram handle along with a statement in two languages – English and French. She completely denied being involved in such a manner with Brad and said that the rumours had deeply hurt her loved ones, including her longtime boyfriend at the time, actor-director, Guillaume Canet. She wrote:

“This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into. I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously, but as this situation is spiralling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up. Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. 

Marion further revealed that she was actually expecting her second child with her boyfriend. She went on to slam the “media and haters” who were passing judgment, and wished them a “swift recovery.” She ended her note by wishing that Angelina and Brad find peace while they are going through such a difficult situation. Marion’s statement can be read as:

“Secondly, to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery. Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. With all my love Marion”

Marion is a well-known French actress, singer, and environmental activist. As of June 2026, she is 50 years old. Her breakout came over a decade ago, in 2007, with the biopic, La Vie en Rose, where she played the role of legendary singer, Edith Piaf. The movie not only shot Marion to fame but also made her the first actor to take home an Oscar for a French-language project. 

While Marion continued to establish herself in the acting industry, she faced tremendous online scrutiny after allegedly being caught having an affair with her Allied co-star, Brad Pitt, by her then-wife, Angelina Jolie. If reports are believed to be true, after Angelina suspected Brad of cheating, she hired a private investigator to follow him. Apparently, the PI caught Brad partying and interacting inappropriately with Marion while acting as if he were a single guy.
