New Delhi: To combat the growing threat of digital arrest scams, the CBI will unveil an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot on Monday to help people verify the authenticity of notices issued by fraudsters. The chatbot, named Abhay, will be launched by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant.
According to a CBI spokesperson, Abhay will enable the public to check whether a notice purportedly issued by the agency is genuine. In the context of digital arrest frauds, this offers citizens a much-needed safeguard. Scamsters posing as CBI officials have been coercing victims with fake notices in non-existent cases, holding them “digitally arrested” and extorting crores of rupees.
The Supreme Court recently highlighted that cybercriminals siphoned off nearly ₹54,000 crore through various scams, describing the menace as “robbery or dacoity.”
