Hyderabad: A 24-foot-tall Lord Ganesh Idol over a chariot at a mandap made up with mirrors at Shalivahananagar in Dilsukhnagar has emerged as one of the most talked-about Vinayaka Chavithi attractions in east Hyderabad. The mandap, claimed to have been made with 2.5 crore small glass pieces in different shapes and sizes, gives an impression like the Hall of Illusions (Maya Sabha) of the Mahabharata.
Devotees and influencers on social media have been sharing reels and photos of the idol, highlighting its “glass mandapam” backdrop and extensive use of mirrors, stones and jewellery-like detailing that give the pandal a Sheesh Mahal effect. The idol and mandap are fully lit at night, with long queues and dense crowds spilling into adjoining lanes in Shalivahananagar.
The idol’s visual distinctiveness and heavy online promotion have helped it stand out among numerous large Ganesh pandals across the city this year, contributing to sustained footfall even on normal weekdays.
Radhika, who came from Kawadiguda with her family, said, “We heard about this mirror Ganesh on Instagram and planned a special trip. It felt like stepping into a dream world and the whole atmosphere looks divine. This is not just a pandal, it is an experience we will remember for years.”
Shailesh, one of the organisers, said, “Our idea was to create something that blends tradition with a modern artistic touch. We wanted devotees to feel they are not just seeing an idol, but walking into a sacred, luminous space.” He said the response has been overwhelming as people are coming even from outside Hyderabad and for us, the biggest reward is seeing the joy and devotion on their faces.
