A sense of tension prevailed after a woman attempted to end her life, alleging persistent harassment by the police and the illegal detention of her husband here in the Deshaipet area of Warangal.

The victim claimed that her husband was picked up by the authorities 12 days ago and has since been kept in undocumented custody without being produced before a court of law.

In a suicide note recovered from the scene, the woman held senior police officials directly responsible for her plight. She specifically named the Mamunoor Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), the Enumamula Circle Inspector (CI), and the local Sub-Inspector (SI), stating that they would be accountable for any harm that might befall her or her husband. She alleged that the police, acting at the behest of certain influential market traders, have been foisting false cases on her family.

The victim’s relatives expressed grave concern over the whereabouts of her husband, pointing out that constitutional mandates require a detained person to be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours. “It has been 12 days, and we have no information on his safety or location. The police are using intimidation tactics against us instead of following the due process of law,” a family member stated.

The woman is currently undergoing treatment, and her condition is being monitored. While the police department is yet to issue a formal statement regarding the allegations of illegal detention and harassment, the incident has sparked criticism from local rights activists regarding custodial protocols.

Higher authorities are expected to initiate an inquiry into the conduct of the named officers as the details of the underlying dispute with the market traders continue to emerge.
