DJ Fat Tony has urged fans not to judge the Beckham family over their ongoing feud, as he stepped back into the drama.
The 60-year-old has been a longtime friend of Victoria and David Beckham, and has been on hand to perform at many of their events over the years – including Brooklyn’s wedding to wife Nicola Peltz in 2022.
Following the nuptials, the budding photographer distanced himself from his loved ones and publicly called out his parents, claiming that they were controlling, and that his mum behaved inappropriately on their big day.
Rehashing the fall-out in a new interview about his career, the acclaimed DJ reflected on his now infamous stint behind the decks at the ceremony, and the subsequent headlines.
“I’ve been blessed to work at some amazing events, including Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding where I DJ’d for three days,” he told the Times.
“Before judging, people should remember that two parents have lost their first-born son and a son has lost his parents.
“All families have dramas, but they just happen to be the Beckhams, and once that story came out – sparked by Stav making a comment on an Instagram post about how Victoria was dancing – I got dozens of interview requests from media all over the world, including a personal call from Piers Morgan, which I turned down.”
This isn’t the first time that the musician, real name Tony Marnach, has spoken about the rift as he previously shared his insight while appearing on This Morning.
“It’s always sad when there’s a rift in any family. It just so happened that I got dragged into one,” he later told Hello Magazine. “[The Beckham family] are incredible and [David and Victoria] brought up those kids impeccably.
“They are who they are; they’re an amazing PR machine, they do wonderful things and I’ve just gone in a different direction. I love Brooklyn, I love Nicola. I see Romeo all the time, he’s always around. He’s doing incredibly. He’s just dropped his new clothing range, so it’s amazing. They’re all doing well, and Cruz.”
Brooklyn has been locked in a bitter feud with his family in recent months after slamming Victoria and David in a scathing six-page statement in January, branding them “performative”.
Discussing his wedding with Nicola, he fumed at the time: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.
“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.
“I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
Despite David and Victoria making several attempts to publicly extend an olive branch to their son, and including him in their social media posts for milestone birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, he has continued to ignore their gestures.
The Spice Girls icon was previously questioned about the drama in a candid interview with the Wall Street Journal and, although she didn’t mention her eldest son’s name, she insisted: “We love our children so much. We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be.
“And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
When asked if she had any remorse about bringing her family into the spotlight, she added: “I wouldn’t say it comes with guilt, I’d say that there was a lot of adjusting from my mum and dad, when all of a sudden there were paparazzi outside their house. We’ve really taken our families on this ride with us.”
