Being super impressed by Donna’s acting skills, he recommended her for a role in Clint Eastwood’s directorial debut. Recalling the time, the actress said:

“I worked with Clint Eastwood because of working with Burt Reynolds. I had come out here to California. I was living in New York at the time, where I was doing a soap opera. About a month or so later, after doing ‘Dan August,’ I was getting ready to leave the soap. I had already given them my notice. All of a sudden, I got a call. I was told I got this new movie with Clint Eastwood. My instant reaction was, ‘What? How did I even do that if I’ve never met Clint?’ I didn’t audition for it or anything.”

Donna revealed that Clint ran into Burt at a bar one night. During their conversation, he complained to Burt about how he was having difficulty finding a girl he liked who could play the role of his girlfriend in a movie that he wanted to make. This is when Burt gushed about working with Donna and recommended her by saying, “Maybe you’d like her. I thought she was great.”

The film in question was the 1971 movie, Play Misty for Me, where Donna played Clint’s love interest. Also starring Jessica Walter, the story of the film revolved around the life of a disc jockey whose world has turned upside down after a romantic encounter with a crazy fan. For her role, Donna Mills had to share a passionate kiss with her co-star, Clint. Recounting the kiss, Donna confessed that it was far from ugly and that Clint is a very good kisser. She even went as far as to rate the kiss, saying, “I would give him a triple A!”

Donna Mills gushed about Clint Eastwood being a very sweet man

According to Donna, Clint was “a really sweet man” when they worked together on set. Gushing about the actor, she stated that out of respect for her, Clint was even willing to omit a love scene from the film. In her words:

“Here I was, coming from a soap opera in New York. I’ve never done a major motion picture out in California, let alone with one of the biggest stars in the world. It was mind-boggling. And yet, while we were shooting, he was so laid back and so nice to me. He was very generous. He actually did something that I’ve never had anybody else do.”

Clint assured Donna by saying that while he knows the scene would be difficult for her to shoot, he would first show it to her. If she did not like it and thought that it was “lascivious or anything at all,” he would not put it in the film. Donna found this gesture of his incredibly kind and generous. She said:

“There’s a scene in the film that’s a montage scene where we’re in a pond naked together. I think there’s a waterfall. What I do remember is that it was very cold. He played me a song he wanted to do this scene to because that wasn’t in the original script that I got. He said, ‘You know, we’re gonna have to be naked together in this.’ I went, ‘Oh, my parents aren’t going to like that!'”
