Hyderabad: Fifteen districts recorded maximum temperature of above 43º Celsius and Dummugudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Dharmapuri of Jagtial recorded the state’s highest temperature at 46.3°C even isolated rainfall activity was reported in southern Telangana districts.
According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) data, Hyderabad recorded an average maximum temperature of 40.8°C, with Bahadurpura the hottest at 42.1°C. Late at night, many areas of the city received some rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heatwave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of Khammam district and issued orange warnings for Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Khammam, Warangal and Hanamkonda districts for May 23. Yellow heatwave alerts remained in force for districts including Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mulugu and Jagtial.
At the same time, isolated rainfall activity was reported in southern Telangana districts. Wanaparthy recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 31.5 mm at Dagada and 30.5 mm at Wanaparthy town. 18.8 mm at Atmakur and 16.5 mm at Kothakota. Telangana’s overall average rainfall for the day stood at 0.3 mm.
The IMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places over the next seven days, alongside thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph in several districts. It also said there would be no major change in maximum temperatures for the next four days, followed by a gradual fall of 1-2°C.
