Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan has emerged as one of the most successful crossover actors in Telugu cinema. Interestingly, his 41st film is a straight Telugu project, in which he is paired opposite Pooja Hegde. He is also starring in AkasamLo Oka Tara, directed by Pavan Sadineni.
“Dulquer is currently the most sought-after Malayalam actor in Tollywood,” says the director. “He has the perfect blend of charm, screen presence, and acting talent. His understated performances have earned him a loyal fan base among Telugu audiences.”
Dulquer is also gearing up for another Telugu release, Lucky Bhaskar, which has generated considerable buzz across the Telugu states. “The film portrays him as a middle-class employee whose life takes an unexpected turn after fortune smiles on him. It promises to showcase yet another relatable and engaging performance from Dulquer,” the source adds.
He was last seen in a special appearance in Kalki 2898 AD, a project he took up owing to his long-standing association with the Swapna Dutt family.
Dulquer first won over Telugu audiences with Mahanati, where he portrayed legendary Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan in the biopic of iconic actress Savitri. “Despite Keerthy Suresh playing the title role, Dulquer’s effortless and charismatic performance stood out. His portrayal was widely appreciated, and Telugu audiences admired both his acting and screen presence,” the director notes.
He further strengthened his position in Tollywood with the blockbuster Sita Ramam, in which he delivered one of the finest performances of his career. Playing both a romantic hero opposite Mrunal Thakur’s character and a dedicated soldier willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, Dulquer impressed audiences with his emotional depth and versatility.
“Sita Ramam gave Dulquer a role with multiple layers, and he carried it off with remarkable ease. The film made him a household name among Telugu viewers,” the source says.
Interestingly, Dulquer continues a family legacy in Telugu cinema. His father, legendary actor Mammootty, also earned immense appreciation from Telugu audiences for his portrayal of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Yatra. He reprised the role in Yatra 2, once again winning praise for his commanding performance.
