Heading into last week’s Jets-Titans opener, we wondered what it would say about Cam Ward if he could not beat the Jets at home to begin Year 2.
Well, about that.
Ward, Robert Saleh and the Titans received a thorough beatdown from Gang Green that makes one wonder if they’ll be picking No. 1 for the second time in three years after a 23-10 loss.
Ward did not perform well in an ominous sign, and the beleaguered offensive line got worked over by the Jets.
In come the Eagles, who possess a stronger defensive line to get after Ward.
It’s hard to expect that a Titans team that could not hold off the Jets’ pass rush will hold up against Philadelphia’s wave of pass rushers that is ranked one of the best in the sport.
This battle has mismatch written all over it.
On the other side of the ball, the Titans’ defense is not equipped to stop the Eagles’ rushing attack.
Tennessee did little to stop Breece Hall and the Jets, and now they face Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts.
There are plenty of concerns still about Philadelphia’s passing attack, but this is not the game where they need to air it out.
Betting on the NFL?
We’d expect, though, that DeVonta Smith will get the squeaky wheel treatment after a 3-53 showing to start a season that many expect will be among the league’s best.
Laying seven points on the road is not an ideal situation, but it’s hard to see many paths where the Titans – after being steamrolled by the Jets – fare better against a strong playoff contender that is even better suited to expose their deficiencies across the board.
