Bleu Landau, who played Sharon Watts’ wayward son, has admitted that he struggled after his role on the BBC soap came to an end and felt like he’d ‘lost [his] purpose’

EastEnders actor Bleu Landau has revealed he is swapping acting for a new career six years after his character Dennis Mitchell was brutally killed off.

The 21-year-old, who played Sharon Watts’ wayward son, has admitted that he struggled after his role on the BBC soap came to an end and felt like he’d “lost [his] purpose”.

Dennis tragically drowned in February 2020 after the Queen Vic’s celebration on the River Thames for winning best pub turned into disaster. After Ian had discovered that Dennis was responsible for putting his son in hospital, he locked him on the lower deck of the boat. However, the boat crashed and despite Ian attempting to save Dennis, he suffered cardiac arrest and died.

The scenes aired a month before the UK went into its first national Covid-19 lockdown on March 23 2020, which Bleu explained made it very hard to find acting work afterwards at just 15 years old.

Taking to Instagram six years on, Bleu has revealed he’s launched a new business venture as he announced a “new chapter” in his life.

In a series of slides, he wrote: “For a while, I felt like I’d lost my purpose.

“Growing up, I was lucky enough to live a dream! From a young age, acting was a huge part of my life. Being on EastEnders gave me experiences, opportunities and memories I’ll forever be grateful for. But eventually, that chapter came to an end.

“After leaving EastEnders, Covid hit. Productions stopped, opportunities became limited, and an altready competitive industry became even harder to navigate. For the first time, I wasn’t really sure what was next.

“I still have an agent, I’m still pursuing opportunities, and I’m working towards landing that next role. But acting is an industry were so much is out of your control. And while waiting for that next opportunity, I started to feel I was missing something. A sense of direction. A purpose, something I could build towards every single day.”

Bleu continued to say that he decided to create his own opportunities after coming up with an idea but that he had to “learn from scratch” and that he had struggled with self-doubt.

He revealed that he is launching clothing brand ‘Playa Cala’ after “months of work behind the scenes”.

The former soap star added: “I’m still chasing my dreams in acting. But separately, I’ve found a passion that’s given me a renewed sense of purpose.”

Among those supporting him in the comments was Hollyoaks star Owen Warner, who wrote: “Looks cleannn.” Another friend commented: “Proud my brother.”
