EastEnders fans will recall Yusef Khan’s harrowing domestic abuse against his wife, Zainab Masood
Ace Bhatti has appeared in some major TV dramas since his exit.
It has been nearly 15 years since Yusef Khan accidentally died in chilling EastEnders scenes, and Ace Bhatti is still enjoying a glittering acting career.
Villainous Yusef first appeared on the BBC soap in 2010 when he was introduced as a friend of Afia Masood (played by Meryl Fernandes), who was actually his daughter.
A shady character to his core, Yusef spent his time in Walford charming the locals while hiding a very dark side until it was revealed that he had purposefully set his first wife, Zainab Masood (Nina Wadia), on fire after she cheated on him.
Yusuf moved to Walford to work as a GP, but also to rekindle his romance with Zainab from their time together in Pakistan, and romance soon blossomed.
Their seamless relationship was short-lived as Zainab got to know him better, and it was clear that Yusef wasn’t all that he had pretended to be.
Throughout this time, Yusuf constantly manipulated and attacked Zainab, pushing her to even abandon her own son. Eventually, she confided in ex-husband Masood (Nitin Ganatra) about her domestic abuse after finding no one else to turn to.
When Yusuf found out, he became enraged and deliberately set fire to the Albert Square bed and breakfast while there was a party. His plan was to kill Zainab, but in a surprising twist, Zainab told him that Afia was stuck inside the property, even though she wasn’t.
Running inside to save his daughter, Yusef became trapped and engulfed in the flames. The property soon exploded, and Yusef died on Boxing Day in 2011.
