Hyderabad: In a setback to Telangana Rakshana Sena founder Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has written to her, asking her to change the name of her political party after receiving numerous objections.
According to reports, the ECI received more than 1,000 objections to the proposed party name. The Commission has given Kavitha two weeks to submit three alternative names. If she fails to do so within given period of time, her party’s registration application may be closed.
It is said that Telangana Rakshana Sena has written to the Election Commission, stating that it was informed of only two objections and questioning why it had been asked to change the party’s name without being informed about the remaining objections.
On April 25, Kalvakuntla Kavitha announced the launch of her political party under the name Telangana Rashtra Sena. A few days later, the party name was changed to Telangana Rakshana Sena. As part of the registration process, she submitted five proposed names to the Election Commission: Telangana Praja Jagruthi, Telangana Jagruthi, Telangana Rakshana Sena, Telangana Rashtra Jagruthi, and Telangana Praja Shakthi.
The Election Commission had initially accepted Telangana Rakshana Sena but clarified that final approval would be granted only after considering objections, if any, from political parties and the public.
