Eluru: A woman and her daughter were found dead under suspicious circumstances in a cashew orchard at Ungaturu mandal in Nallamadu village in the district on Monday. Police suspect that unidentified persons may have been involved in these deaths and have launched an investigation into the incident.

“The bodies of the woman and her daughter were found in a cashew field near Nallamadu village. Both sustained serious head injuries, suspected to have been caused by a sharp object,” Eluru DSP D Sravan Kumar said. The bodies were found at separate places in the orchard in a decomposed state by farmers who had informed the police about the bodies.
According to police, the victims hailed from Anathapalli, Kothapeta village in East Godavari district. Police found a bag and, based on the Aadhaar card found, they identified the woman as Vadde Venkatalakshmi and her daughter as Varalakshmi.

Varalakshmi, who was differently- abled, was said to be working as a sweeper at the Eluru Municipal Corporation office. Family members stated that on Friday, both mother and daughter traveled to their native village to attend a private function. However, as their whereabouts remained unknown, family members and relatives grew anxious. The matter came to light when the bodies of both women were discovered in a cashew orchard near Nallamadu. Since the bodies were in a partially decomposed state, officials suspect that several days had elapsed since their deaths.

The DSP also mentioned that the daughter had spoken to her brother over the phone around 8 pm on May 29, following which her mobile phone became unreachable.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem to Tadepalligudem Government Hospital. Police suspect that some unknown persons may have committed the crime, though the motive remains unclear.
