When Jerry Jones told reporters that how much he pays the Dallas Cowboys‘ head coach doesn’t matter, it rubbed more than a few outside observers the wrong way.

Sure, Jones just wrapped up the Mike McCarthy experiment in 2025, which didn’t turn out great, but is going over well with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but opting to elevate Brian Schottenheimer over bringing in a top-name coach certainly hasn’t worked out as well as many have hoped.
Taking to social media to weigh in on Jones’ comments, Emmanuel Acho accused the Cowboys owner of “organizational malpractice,” as he simply isn’t doing everything he can to succeed.

“Jerry Jones has been on the stand of being the reason why the Cowboys cannot win, and today, by his own remarks, he should be convicted on all charges, guilty as charged for the reason why the Cowboys can’t win. If Jerry is saying how much you pay a head coach has no bearing on winning, then Jerry is omitting the biggest statistic that has a bearing on winning,” Acho declared.

“The NFL’s highest-paid head coaches: Andy Reid, $21 million, Super Bowl; John Harbaugh, $20 million, Super Bowl; Sean Payton, $20 million, Super Bowl; Sean McVay, $19 million, Super Bowl; Kyle Shanahan, $19 million, has been to two Super Bowls as a head coach and a Super Bowl as an offensive coordinator; Jim Harbaugh, $16 million, has been to a Super Bowl. Then after that, it’s a significant drop-off; you start to get to $15 million, $15 million, of which you find Nick Sirianni tied for seventh place, $15 million, Super Bowl. There is no greater correlation with winning than how much you pay your head coach and will he yield a Super Bowl.”
So, after all of that, how much does Brian Schottenheimer make? Well, that would be between $5-8 million, according to The Athletic, which is among the lowest marks in the NFL. Considering the Cowboys currently sit at 3-5, and are 10-14-1 under his leadership, it will be interesting to see if Jones’ suggestion proves out or if Acho’s stat holds true.
