Danny Miller’s father is a famous face who was tragically diagnosed with dementia
Danny Miller is a firm favourite on Emmerdale playing Aaron Dingle – and it turns out his father is also a well-known star.
Actor Danny shot to fame when he joined the ITV soap as Aaron in 2008. And it didn’t take him long to become one of the soap’s most beloved characters. Danny’s also had his fair share of big storylines in the famous Dales playing Aaron – from affairs and his romance with Robert Sugden (played by Ryan Hawley) to shock murder and spending time behind bars .
And in the soap at the moment, Aaron recently returned to the village to Robert, only to find a new guest staying with them: Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy). However, Aaron has since shared his doubts about Serena and warned Robert against getting too close to her.
But it turns out actor Danny’s not the only entertainer in his family. His beloved father, Vince Miller, 90, also worked in the showbiz and entertainment world.
Known as the ‘king of comperes’, Vince worked as the VIP host at Manchester United for almost 30 years. He also worked at Old Trafford for 29 years and often interviewed football legend, Sir Alex Ferguson.
No stranger to rubbing shoulders with famous faces throughout his 65-year career, Vince has also worked with Johnny Mathis and Shirley Bassey and even spoke at comedian Bernard Manning’s funeral.
When Vince was 82, he announced that he would be officially retiring from the showbiz and entertainment world. He told Manchester Evening News: “I’ve no upset about it, the time is now to get out while you’re on top, you don’t want people saying ‘not him again’!”
To celebrate his retirement, son Danny put together a charity bash in which he paid tribute to his dad, dubbing him the “best in the business”. On stage, Vince said: “I’ve had a great career, I’ve done it all as a presenter, comedian, singer, I’ve been very fortunate. As Edith Piaf said, Je ne regrette rien, no regrets!”
Vince has also previously gushed about Danny after watching him follow in his footsteps with a career in the entertainment business. He said: “He’s doing so very well and he’s done it all himself – so now he’s up there. I’m so proud.”
Sadly in 2025, Vince was diagnosed with dementia – and since then, Danny has been incredibly open about the reality of having a loved one battling with dementia, and the highs and lows that come with the disease.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain earlier this year, he spoke about Vince – who lives in a care home in Manchester in an emotional update. He said: “It’s sad, and, you know, me and my dad were thick as thieves at one point, and, you know, losing him over and over again is awful.”
Giving an update on his dad’s current health, Danny continued: “There’s good days and bad days. There was a time last week where I didn’t know if I’d be sat here because he’s up and down with his general health anyway, but dementia always makes it feel somewhat worse.
“There’s urine infections that suddenly make them more confused, and then his health declined, he looked ill.”
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
