EXCLUSIVE: Bradley Riches has revealed he had to fake shock after a co-star revealed the huge news he was returning for a massive storyline in Emmerdale
Bradley Riches has revealed the moment he had to act shocked to ITV bosses after discovering a big new Emmerdale storyline. The actor, 24, has admitted he was secretly told of pal and co-star Chris Coghill’s return to the fictional village.
But rather than drop his pal in it, he had to act surprised when the soap’s producer’s revealed the storyline. Chris returns to Dales in his role as Kev Townsend and has walked straight into a dramatic return storyline.
Kev returned after Bradley’s character Lewis was kidnapped by Kev’s ex, Kylie. She demanded the return of a stolen diamond and Kev agrees to hand over the jewel to save Lewis.
He then revealed the shock truth that he is Lewis’s biological father.
Speaking to the Mirror, though, Bradley admitted he was well aware that this was happening before ITV revealed the twist. “Obviously he did the little stint last year, didn’t he?,” Bradley said.
“It came out September to December, and then he secretly messaged me in February, and he was like, ‘I think I might be coming back… don’t obviously tell anyone’. I was like, ‘no, I’ll keep it to myself’.”
And he added: “Before I went to get married, I had a meeting with the producers, and they were like, ‘so Chris is coming back’, and ‘I went, no way!’ Like, it’s a surprise, but I knew he was coming back anyway.”
Bradley, who is currently on a break from the soap after tying the knot with Scott Johnston in April, said Chris has taught him a lot in their time together. He said: “That man, he’s one of those people who, you watch him do scenes and stuff like that, and he is a guy who just goes with instincts as an actor.”
Praising his pal and co-star, Bradley went on: “That is what a true actor is, being honest, being real. So I’ve learnt a lot from him, to trust my instincts as a human as well. So I’ve learnt a lot from him, but yeah, he’s a legend.”
Currently, Bradley has taken a step away from his role as he enjoys time as a married man. And he admits the pair have huge plans to explore the world during his time off set.
“We’ve definitely got some holidays booked, but yeah, this year’s been very busy, so a bit more chilling, a bit more sun is definitely what I want.”
Bradley was speaking at this year’s Peugeot Attitude Pride Awards Europe at The Chancery Rosewood hotel in Mayfair, London. And he admitted how important such events are to the LGBTQ+ community.
He said: “They mean so much. It’s a celebration, isn’t it? Of identity, sexuality, gender. It’s a celebration of the queer community, so it means absolutely everything.
“And obviously all the trailblazers who are doing a lot for our community as well, and also the allies who are doing a lot for our community.”
