England suffer World Cup injury blow as full-back Livramento set to leave squad with Chalobah his likely replacement

Tino Livramento is unlikely to play at this World Cup due to injury with England boss Thomas Tuchel set to call up a replacement.

Newcastle defender Livramento has a calf problem and will likely be removed from the squad prior to the deadline, which is 24 hours before the Three Lions’ first game. England face Croatia tomorrow night with a 9pm kick off.

Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is in line to be called up, adding to England’s pool of central defenders.

It does leave Tuchel’s squad short of options at left-back, however, a position Livramento could have played.

Nico O’Reilly is first-choice and will start against the Croatians in Dallas but there is very little cover for the Manchester City defender.

Djed Spence can operate on the left side but is predominantly a right-back, likewise Reece James. Dan Burn is another option but lacks the mobility to cope with elite wingers.

It is another huge blow for Livramento whose career has been blighted by injuries. He made just 17 Premier League appearances for Newcastle last season. The 23-year-old had been linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer but his fitness worries may scupper that.
