The Grey’s Anatomy legend died in February following a battle with motor neurone disease
Euphoria fans have been left in tears after HBO released unseen footage of late star Eric Dane.
The beloved actor, who played Cal Jacobs on the show, died in February from respiratory failure amid his battle with motor neurone disease. He was 53 years old.
The star had already filmed his scenes for the current season, so his character is still in the show. He was heavily featured in the brand-new Episode 3, which centred on his on-screen son Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) wedding.
Following the new release, HBO Max has shared behind-the-scenes footage on YouTube, including a touching interview with Dane. In the 13-minute clip, the actor admits: “This has been the most profound experience of my career. I really got on well with all the people I work with and it was great to see them all again.”
The Grey’s Anatomy legend is also shown joking with his fellow castmates. In one clip, he makes a reference to Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 classic The Shining.
Speaking to a crew member, Dane says: “You know who you remind me of? A guy named Lloyd, do you know Lloyd?”. He then adds: “Repeat after me ‘Your money’s no good here Mr Torrance.'”
The quote comes from a scene in which Jack Torrance (played by Jack Nicholson) is given a free drink by bartender Lloyd (Joe Turkel).
Elsewhere in the video, Dane shares a heartfelt confession about his time on the HBO drama. He says: “This show was a very stress-free environment for me and seeing all those familiar faces was such a treat. It’s been a fun ride.”
Fans have naturally been moved by the clips, with many expressing their heartbreak in the comments section.
One penned: “Eric!!! My heart!!! Happy to see the outtakes and hear him talking as himself but it’s so bittersweet. He’s such a beautiful soul that will be missed forever.”
A second fan added: “I’m literally crying!!! I loved Cal’s character development from season 2 and his wedding interaction with Jules. Also the most handsome man RIP.”
While a third viewer said: “RIP Eric. He has always been fantastic acting as Cal. I’m glad they were able to get this filmed before he passed, and while he is clearly sick while filming, they made it work with the character.”
Euphoria season 3 airs on Sundays on HBO in the USA and on Mondays on HBO Max, Sky and NOW in the UK
