Erling Haaland and Aitch star in Sports Direct 2026 Christmas ad

Value high street chain Sports Direct have splashed out on some big stars for their Christmas advert with Erling Haaland and rapper Aitch showing off their acting skills.

After a flurry of ad launches today, their Christmas campaign involves some of the biggest names in sport and music, with rising rugby star Henry Pollock also involved alongside legendary Lioness Leah Williamson and sprinter Dina Asher-Smith.

Titled Unwrap Potential, we see the famous faces act as gift advisers, using what the retailer calls ‘Athlete Intelligence’. The advert starts with a keen uncle on the hunt for the perfect present for his niece, unaware that a team of sporting stars are on hand to make sure the right choice is made.

He’s not alone in his search with Aitch also turning to the sporting stars for help locating presents for his sister. The 60-second advert sees Manchester City star Haaland in the hot-seat before he eventually recommends a pair of his Nike Phantom 6 Low football boots.

The advert will be shown in 900 Sports Direct stores, as well as on television and across social media with the slogan ‘Spot the potential. Find the gift to match. See what happens.’

Nike vice president and general manager César García said: “Sport has the power to change how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible. Our partnership with Sports Direct is built on a shared ambition to bring more people to sport.”

Tis’ certainly the season for the festive adverts.

This year’s John Lewis Christmas advert is now available to watch and it features Slow Horses star Dame Kristin Scott Thomas as grandmother Gloria, who is trying to find the perfect gift for her grandchildren.

Gloria, with the help Pickles the dog, a vintage Little Snoopy Pull Along Toy voiced by comedian Paul Whitehouse, decides against giving out envelopes of cash. She and Pickles then head to a John Lewis branch.

As the family arrives on Christmas Day, Gloria presents her grandchildren with a key to a room that has been transformed into a ‘Gran Cave’ – complete with sparkling lights, disco balls and a record player.

The children, Freddie – played by EastEnders actor Jahsaiah Williams – and sister Maggie, give their grandmother a huge hug before the advert ends with them dancing in the makeshift den together.

John Lewis says this year’s campaign has been made with the cost-of-living crisis in mind, as all items in Gloria’s fun room have either been recycled from elsewhere in her house or cost less than £100.

But Lidl are in the mood for a fight and have wheeled out a big gun – none other than Barry from EastEnders!

Much-loved Shaun Williamson takes centre stage in the supermarket’s new campaign, titled Lidl Christmas Everybody as he leads a festive singing along.
