Ahead of Diwali, more than 100 roadside textile shops have sprung up from Panneerselvam park to Manikundu in Erode.
In this situation, the traders at the integrated textile shopping complex, Kani Market, functioning near Panneerselvam Park protested that the roadside business and high rent for their shops have hampered their business. In view of Diwali, Kani Market textile traders had taken loans worth lakhs and kept clothes for business. They also complained to the corporation officials that the roadside shops should be removed.
On Saturday morning, the traders of Kani Market gathered in front of the shopping mall and blocked a government bus going to the bus stand. This caused traffic disruption and vehicles lined up for a long distance. Town police inspector Elango rushed to the scene and held talks with the protesters.
