Eurovision 2026 has its winner on the cards. It’s Bulgarian singer, Dara who emerged as the winner of the contest. For the unversed, Eurovision is an annual international song competition, and it’s one of the most-watched contests.

The grand finale of the 70th edition took place on May 16, 2026, and it’s the Bulgarian singer, Dara, who emerged as the winner with 516 points. The grand finale took place in Vienna, and Israel finished in second position with 343 points, while Romania and Australia were the top contenders. The UK ended in the last position with only one point, for Look Mum No Computer. So, amid Dara’s win, let’s have a look at who she is and her earnings from Eurovision 2026.

Who is the Eurovision 2026 winner, Dara? A look at her professional career

Dara is already a Pop star in her country, and now with this massive win, she will surely be a national treasure. Dara is known for her songs like Thunder and Call Me, and apart from that, many of her songs were marked as hits on the charts. Apart from being a pop singer, Dara also mentored the future generation of musicians on The Voice of Bulgaria in 2021 and 2022. Her latest album was ADHDARA, which was released back in 2025. Following this, she became a part of Eurovision 2026, and emerged as the winner, while representing her country, which ended up making her a national treasure.

Dara’s full name is Darina, and she’s from Varna, Bulgaria. From the beginning, music is very close to her, and she grew up with the same, just like a kid grows up with sports. Dara joined the National School of Arts in Varna, where she specialised in folklore singing. She won Eurovision 2026 for Bangaranga, for which she had to be trained. For the unversed, Bangaranga is a traditional vocal technique which includes microtones and emotional rawness, and the singer revealed that it just runs in her DNA. Dara also joined the Bulgarian X Factor at the age of 16, which she ended in the third position.

Dara signed to one of the biggest labels in the country. Dara last year revealed the album, ADHDARA, whose name stemmed from an interesting fact that she had dealt with ADHD as an adult. Speaking about the same to Independent, Dara shared that the album dealt with every contradiction in someone, be it the chaos, sensitivity and the fire. She expressed her happiness over bringing that back to Eurovision. Well, she just nailed it in a way. Dara could be quoted as saying:

“I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. That album was about owning every contradictory part of yourself: the chaos, the sensitivity, the fire. It was terrifying and liberating in equal measure. And now here I am, taking all of that to Eurovision in Vienna, representing Bulgaria. I still find it hard to believe – in the best possible way.”

What did Dara sing to win Eurovision 2026? What does it mean?

For the unversed, Dara sang Bangaranga to win Eurovision 2026. For the unversed, this emerges from Jamaican slang, and it means uproar, commotion, a beautiful kind of disorder. She said in an interview with The Independent that she wanted a song that could land easily in London or Vienna and hit people physically before even intellectually.

When it occurred to her, Bangaranga recalled an ancient Bulgarian ritual, kukeri, in which men of their country wear extraordinary clothes, fur, and animal masks and move through the village at the beginning of the year. According to Dara, this kukeri is celebrated to chase out the darkness, and when she thought of Bangaranga, it was the first thing that hit her. Speaking more about the same, Dara shared:

“The purpose is to scare the bad spirits away. The energy is overwhelming, almost frightening – and yet it is entirely joyful, entirely communal, entirely alive. That is Bangaranga. It is noise and fire and rhythm deployed as a force for good – to chase away whatever darkness has settled, to shake the room back to life. “Bangaranga” is a riot – but it’s a happy one. An invitation, not a threat. “Come in, surrender to the lights, no one’s going to sleep tonight.”

She held her head high after winning Eurovision, and speaking to the Independent, the singer revealed that the country had been absent from the contest for more than 3 years. She mentioned that winning would be extraordinary, and she would fight to win. Well, she did prove how much of a hard work she put, which led her to be the winner of Eurovision 2026.

Taking to her IG handle, Dara shared an adorable video wherein she asked people to believe in themselves and be delusional. She further mentioned that she’s extremely grateful for what happened to her. She also, before winning the contest, revealed to The Independent that if her son could make someone take out their phone and look up Bulgaria for its culture, music and literature, then that would mean she could achieve something, and as she already won, it feels that she fulfilled what she wished for.

How much did Dara win from Eurovision 2026?

Even though Eurovision is an international contest, if the reports are to be believed, there’s no prize money for winning it. According to OK! Magazine and The Mirror, whoever wins the competition is provided with the iconic Crystal Microphone trophy.

This trophy has been a part of the contest since 2008. The trophy is handcrafted from glass and designed to resemble a vintage 1950s microphone. It’s designed by Swedish artist Kjell Engman of Kosta Boda. The contest seemingly doesn’t provide any monetary gift to the winners, but yes, streaming growth and worldwide exposure are guaranteed with the win. In this case, with the victory in the 70th edition, Bulgarian singer Dara is going to have a smooth ride to make her name even shine brighter in the music world.
