Everton versus Chelsea kicks off at 12:30pm BST on Saturday, October 17 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Global broadcast details can be found at premierleague.com.

Preview for Everton v Chelsea

Two teams on 10 points, two very different routes to get there. Everton host Chelsea at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday lunchtime, with David Moyes’s side putting their unbeaten start on the line against Xabi Alonso’s Londonders.

Everton are fifth, only above Chelsea on goal difference, and they’ve got there by being very hard to beat. Two wins and four draws from six games leaves them as one of the few unbeaten sides in the division, and they have already taken points off Tottenham and Manchester United. They also have two clean sheets in their three home league games.

Chelsea, meanwhile, arrive with their confidence restored. The international break came at the right time for Alonso, whose side ended a three-match winless run by hammering Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge. João Pedro and Jordan Henderson both scored twice, and Morgan Rogers added his fourth league goal since his big-money summer move from Aston Villa.

The biggest boost, though, was the return of Moisés Caicedo from the calf injury that had restricted him to just 14 minutes before the break. Chelsea still conceded, as they have in 22 consecutive Premier League games, but it was the first time under Alonso that they hadn’t let in at least two in the league.

Chelsea are the division’s highest scorers, and they love a fast start. They have scored five goals in the opening five minutes of Premier League games this season, and they were 2-0 up against Bournemouth inside three minutes.

History is not on their side, though. Everton have beaten Chelsea in seven of the last nine meetings on Merseyside, and Chelsea have failed to score in seven of those visits. Last season, Everton won 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the second defeat in a six-game losing run that ultimately cost Liam Rosenior his job.

The Premier League Table

  • Position 1, 2, 3, 4 : Promotion – Champions League (League phase)
  • Position 5 : Promotion – Europa League (League phase)
  • Position 18, 19, 20 : Relegation – Championship

Team News for Everton v Chelsea

Vitaliy Mykolenko missed the Hull draw with a knock and remains doubtful. If he misses out again, Jarrad Branthwaite will continue at left-back, with Michael Keane partnering James Tarkowski in the centre and Ainsley Maitland-Niles at right-back.

Dewsbury-Hall is expected to continue in the No.10 role behind Thierno Barry after his impressive display at Hull. Tyrique George is unlikely to start against his former club.

Barry has scored in three of his six Premier League appearances this season, with two of those goals coming on Merseyside.

For Chelsea, Jamie Gittens is ruled out with the ankle injury he picked up on England Under-21 duty. Reece James is a doubt after missing games either side of the international break, and summer signing Emmanuel Emegha is still waiting for his debut after his move from Strasbourg.

Alonso could name an unchanged side after the Bournemouth win, which would mean Caicedo and Henderson continuing together in midfield.

Expected line-ups for Everton v Chelsea

Everton: Pickford; Maitland-Niles, Tarkowski, Keane, Branthwaite; Garner, Armstrong; Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, Grealish; Barry

Chelsea: Martínez; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, Caicedo, Henderson, Chavarria; Palmer, Rogers; João Pedro

Prediction for Everton v Chelsea

Chelsea showed last week that when they turn it on they can blow any team away. Everton won’t be as defensively weak as Bournemouth but the visitors ought to have enough attacking strength to claim all three points.
