WARANGAL: In an emotional homecoming, former Maoist state secretary Bade Chokka Rao, popularly known as Damodar, reunited with his mother after long years – at his native village in Kalvapally of Tadvai mandal in Mulugu district on Tuesday.
The reunion took place 30 years after he left home to join the extremist movement. A large crowd of villagers were present to witness the reunion.
Chokka Rao, who rose through the ranks from a squad commander to the state secretary of the Telangana unit, recently surrendered before Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy.
His decision to lay down arms, along with several associates, came in the wake of the intensified ‘Operation Kagar’ conducted by the security forces. Since his surrender two months ago, he had been undergoing the necessary rehabilitation process before being allowed to visit his family.
Upon reaching his residence, the former Maoist leader spent considerable time with his elderly mother, enquiring about her health and well-being. The atmosphere in the village was surcharged as family members and childhood acquaintances took their turns to greet him.
