Played by Anjum Batra, his character Mintu in Maamla Legal Hai has transitioned from a simple lawyer’s assistant to a character with more depth and ambition this season. In an exclusive chat with Filmfare, Anjum Batra opened up about his big transformation, working with industry stalwarts, and his aspirations for the future.

The Evolution of Mintu Gurjar

For Anjum, returning to the sets of Maamla Legal Hai felt like a homecoming. However, Season 2 brought new challenges for his character. Anjum shared, “In the first season, Mintu was mostly observing the chaos. This time, there is a visible shift. He is more involved and has his own little wins and struggles.” He described Mintu’s journey as a big transformation, mentioning that the audience’s love for the character gave him the confidence to explore newer shades of the role.

Learning from Ravi Kishan and the Ensemble

One of the highlights of the show is the crackling chemistry between the cast members. Anjum spoke fondly of his time working with Ravi Kishan, who plays the iconic V.D. Tyagi. He said, “Working with Ravi sir is like being in a masterclass of acting and energy. He brings a certain josh to the set that is infectious. Whether it’s a serious scene or a comic one, his timing is impeccable.”

He also had high praise for the new additions and his co-stars. Mentioning Kusha Kapila, who joined the cast this season as Naina Arora, he said, “Kusha brings a very fresh and sharp energy to the courtroom. It’s great to see how the dynamics change when a new, competitive character enters the frame. The camaraderie with Nidhi Bisht, Anant V. Joshi, and Naila Grewal has only grown stronger. We have become a real family off-camera as well.”

The Vision for the Future

Despite the success of the series, Anjum Batra shared how he chooses to remain grounded and hungry for more. He doesn’t want to be pigeonholed into just one genre. He said, “I am grateful for the comedy roles that have come my way, but I want to be known as an actor who can pull off anything. Whether it’s a gritty drama or a clever thriller, I want to explore it all.” For Anjum, acting is more than just a profession. It’s a passion that goes back years. He believes that the courtroom of Patparganj is a reflection of everyday life – messy, funny, and full of heart. He concluded saying, “This show works because people see themselves in these characters. We all have our daily battles, and Maamla Legal Hai shows those victories in a way that makes you smile.”

With Season 2 now streaming, Anjum Batra continues to prove that he is a talent to watch out for.
