SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Thursday firmly reiterated that the opposition INDIA bloc remains fully united, dismissing speculation about internal rifts following recent electoral setbacks. He said the alliance partners continue to coordinate closely and that the bloc’s collective resolve remains intact.
Abdullah explained that the NC’s highest decision‑making body had held extensive discussions on strengthening coordination among alliance members and reviewing the broader political situation. Emphasising solidarity, he stated, “We are together. There is no division in the INDIA bloc.”
Alongside this assertion of unity, Abdullah voiced serious concern over alleged electoral irregularities, referring to what he described as instances of “vote theft.” He expressed hope that these issues would ultimately be examined by the Supreme Court to ensure a fair and transparent outcome. Responding to questions about allegations of rigging in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, he noted that several political leaders across the country had raised doubts about the poll process. He pointed out that leaders such as Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav had publicly questioned the results, adding that he hoped the matter would reach the apex court so that justice could be delivered.
Addressing queries about the functioning of the INDIA bloc, Abdullah reaffirmed that the alliance remains active and operational. He stressed that the bloc continues to work collectively and will persist in doing so despite political challenges.
Abdullah also highlighted that the NC provincial committee meeting held earlier in the day focused on organisational matters and strategies to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. NC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq later told reporters that such meetings are conducted every month to assess party affairs and review the situation in J&K. He said discussions covered developmental issues, public concerns, and feedback from legislators.
When asked whether cabinet expansion was discussed, Sadiq clarified that the matter did not arise, as decisions regarding cabinet restructuring fall solely under the Chief Minister’s authority. He added that the meeting remained focused on party‑related issues and the broader public landscape.
