Prunella Scales’ huge estate has been revealed with the Fawlty Towers’ children set to receive a large portion and charities to also receive a significant sum

Iconic actress Prunella Scales has reportedly left a £3.2million estate following her death. The Fawlty Towers star died in October last year at the age of 93 after a decade-long battle with dementia.
Now it’s been reported that a bulk of her huge fortune has been left to her kids, Samuel and Joseph West. It’s said 40 per cent of her fortune has gone to the children she shared with late actor husband Timothy West. Twenty per cent also went to her stepdaughter Juliet, according to reports.
There was also a number of donations listed to charities that were close to the heart of the actress. The Sun has obtained court records that show the star’s final estate stood at £3,376,585. After taxes, debts and costs were taken off the sum, it was reduced to £3,166,554.
The publication state that the six-page document was signed in 2020. In it, she asks the trustees to hold off on selling her home in South London for up to a year. This was to let her grandson Clement, who lived at the property, move out.
According to the outlet, the charities that are set to benefit from her estate included Snipe Charitable Trust, which was given £10,000. The Campaign to Protect Rural England received £1,000, and the Royal Horticultural Society got the same amount.
Shortly after her death, Prunella’s son Samuel admitted the pair’s last “proper” conversation came around two years before her passing. Opening up about his mum’s final years battling dementia, Samuel noted that his mum’s ability to communicate deteriorated significantly in her final year, making it difficult for him to converse with her properly.
In an interview conducted just a fortnight before her death, her eldest son explained how for her 90th birthday, his brother wrote a beautiful poem.
Speaking on the Rosebud podcast with Gyles Brandreth, Sam continued: “I put out a message on Twitter a few days before saying, ‘My mum’s going to be 90, anyone who wants to send her a message I’ll make sure she gets it.’”
“I received 6,500 replies, which I bound into a book. Even after removing everything but the messages, they made a 110-page book, which she flicked through and rather enjoyed – and wouldn’t remember of course now.
“But at the time it was rather beautiful. The last proper conversation I had with her was a couple of years ago, where she said to me ‘How old am I?’
“And I said ‘You’re 91 mum’. And she said ‘91? F***’ Beautifully enunciated, beautifully timed. It’s not quite the final conversation that we shared, but it may well prove to be the last one that held any real meaning.”
