Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins just became best friends.
The two Raiders newcomers, who are vying for the role of QB1 in Las Vegas this season, each participated in a “Step Brothers” parody for the team’s schedule release video on Thursday — making a clear effort to quiet those who have predicted a failed relationship between the competitors.
Mimicking the way John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell went from enemies to BFFs in the 2008 classic, Mendoza and Cousins first lined up on the Raiders’ practice field and had a staredown.
“You’re going to have to call me Kirko Chains,” said Cousins, who signed a five-year, $172 million contract with the Raiders last month.
“Cool,” Mendoza, the 2026 NFL Draft’s No. 1 overall pick, replied. “You’re going to have to call me the Nandolorian.”
The guys, putting their football spin on the iconic Dale Doback and Brennan Huff characters, then toured the Raiders’ locker room before they found common ground over “Star Wars” and their favorite play.
“Did we just become best friends?” Mendoza said.
“Yup!” Cousins retorted.
The full video is a little under three minutes and features clips of the signal-callers measuring their hands and gawking over a “signed sword from Las Vegas’ own Donnie Osmond.”
Following a meal in the film room and highlights of Ashton Jeanty and Maxx Crosby, the Raiders then showed off when and where the team will play its 17 games this season.
A heated training camp battle between the athletes is on the horizon, but, for now, there doesn’t appear be any issues between the two — at least as long as everyone continues to stay away from one another’s drum sets.
