Here are the England and Panama teams
England (four points) and Panama (zero points) are set to do battle at MetLife Stadium.
England enter their final Group L match already assured of progressing to the round of 32 after taking a win and a draw from their opening two games (a 4-2 win over Croatia and a 0-0 draw with Ghana).
This game will determine whether they finish first or second in their group. But … funnier things have happened. No major shocks in the starting side.
First up: Croatia v Ghana
Ghana prepare for Croatia knowing other results have already secured passage to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
For Croatia, a draw at MetLife Stadium would be enough to progress but only a win will move them above their African opponents as Group L runners-up, and even possibly winners.
Here are the teams:
Croatia: Livakovic, Stanisic, Sutalo, Pongracic, Perisic, Modric, Kovacic, Vlasic, Petar Sucic, Baturina, Budimir Subs: Pandur, Kotarski, Gvardiol, Caleta-Car, Moro, Kramaric, Mario Pasalic, Jakic, Fruk, Matanovic, Luka Sucic, Vuskovic, Marco Pasalic, Erlic, Musa.
Ghana: Asare, Senaya, Adjetey, Luckassen, Mensah, Partey, Owusu, Sibo, Sulemana, Ayew, Semenyo Subs: Ati-Zigi, Anang, Seidu, Yirenkyi, Mumin, Fatawu, Thomas-Asante, Baah, Baba, Opoku, Williams, Boakye, Oppong, Nuamah, Adu.
Good morning!
Welcome to the LAST DAY of the World Cup group games. It’s been a wild, surprising and thoroughly enjoyable ride thus far, so there’s no reason to believe today will be any different.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be in action for Portugal against Colombia looking to seal top spot in Group K, while Congo DR and Uzbekistan try and qualify as one of the eight best third-place teams from the 12 groups.
England are already qualified from Group L and face already-eliminated Panama to try and finish top, while it’s Croatia v Ghana for second.
And finally, Lionel Messi will warm the bench as Argentina round off Group J with a game against Jordan, who are out, meaning the focus will be on Algeria v Austria for the second (and maybe a third) qualification spot.
Here are the matches in store (all times AEST):
- England v Panama, 7am
- Croatia v Ghana, 7am
- Colombia v Portugal, 9.30am
- DR Congo v Uzbekistan, 9.30am
- Algeria v Austria, 12pm
- Jordan v Argentina,12pm
Myself and Tom Decent will be with you throughout for all the updates and relevant titbits (even non-relevant titbits if we like them enough).
