The 120th edition of the Hungarian Championships has concluded as anticipated. Ferencvaros has claimed its 28th title, marking its fifth consecutive victory in the national league.
Additionally, the reigning European champion secured its fifth consecutive “double crown” as it won the Hungarian Cup at the beginning of the season.
The reigning European champion beat Honved in the 3rd game of the best-of-five final by seven goals, 24:17.
Ferencvaros ruled the field in the first quarter, building a 7:2 lead in the first eight minutes, and had an 8:3 advantage early in the second quarter. But Honved didn’t let the game turn into a lopsided contest. The visitors went on a 3:0 run, cutting their deficit to 6:8. Krisztian Manhercz ended Honved’s series, and Szilar Jansik added a goal, giving Ferencvaros a 10:6 lead. In the very last second of the first half, Nikola Moskov made it 7:10.
In the first 58 seconds of the second half, Ferencvaros rebuilt a 5-goal lead with goals from Fekete and Vismeg (12:7). Stylianos Argyropoulos increased the margin to seven (17:10) with 02:19 minutes left in the third quarter, and the game was practically decided.
Ferencvaros has won three trophies this season (besides the Hungarian trophies, it clinched the European Super Cup). In two weeks it will try to retain the Champions League crown.
As for Honved, it reached the finals of all competitions it entered, but lost all three (the Hungarian Cup, the Hungarian League, and the Conference Cup).
