Hyderabad: A luxury car overturned in Filmnagar under Jubilee Hills police station limits on Friday after hitting an electric pole, leading to heavy traffic congestion and disruption in vehicular movement for some time. The impact caused damage to public property and blocked traffic. This is the second incident involving a high-end car; last week a car had struck a couple on the Durgam Cheruvu bridge, resulting in the death of the man.
Police identified the driver in Friday’s accident as Akash and booked him for negligent driving and causing damage to public property. The accused initially left the vehicle at the scene following the accident.
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot, cleared the vehicle, and regulated traffic to restore normal movement. The accused in the evening approached the police and surrendered. He reportedly told the police that he lost control of the car, leading to the incident. Police also conducted checks to ascertain whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol but ruled out drunk driving in this case.
Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the accident. Meanwhile, the vehicle was seized and an inspection will be conducted by the motor vehicle inspector.
Pregnant woman, husband attacked over marriage
HYDERABAD: A nine‑month pregnant woman and her husband were allegedly assaulted by her family members while she was on her way to hospital for delivery. The couple claimed the attack was triggered by opposition to their love marriage.
According to the victims, the woman was due for delivery the same day when her brothers and relatives intercepted them. She alleged she was physically assaulted, including blows to her abdomen, while her husband was attacked when he tried to intervene.
The woman said her family had been pressuring her to leave her husband, move abroad and remarry, but repeated refusals led to continued harassment that escalated into violence. Her husband alleged that her brothers led the attack, which continued even at the hospital, causing panic among onlookers.
The couple appealed for strict action, stating the assault endangered both the woman and her unborn child.
