BERHAMPORE: Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder and Nowda MLA Humayun Kabir has been booked in an FIR in Murshidabad of West Bengal for allegedly wishing chief minister Suvendu Adhikari death. He however took a U-turn after facing criticism.
On Sunday Mr Kabir told the media, “Mr Adhikari is acting like a super power after becoming CM. His police unleashed atrocities against me and my party workers. I will pray to almighty Allah during special Friday Namaz for his fall from power. He should also face an untimely death like former Maharashtra CM Ajit Pawar and others: Madhavrao Scindia, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.”
Protesting his filthy remarks, Republican Party of India (Athawale), an NDA ally, lodged an FIR against him at Berhampore police station. Rejinagar Assembly bypoll candidate Sakharov Sarkar of BJP said, “Mr Kabir has lost his mind. He will face defeat at Rejinagar. That’s why he pased such inhuman remarks against our popular CM.”
Mr Kabir later took a U-turn and blamed the media for distorting his comments. Disowning his remarks he wished Mr Adhikari to complete his term and his promotion to Prime Minister after Narendra Modi. Mr Kabir claimed, “I never said anything particularly against him. I only spoke against the police and their super boss.”
Meanwhile, a Congress worker Ziarul Islam (48) was murdered by a gang of miscreants at Islampur in the district when he was returning home on Saturday night. Islampur Congress MLA Zulfiqar Ali blamed NCPI for the murder. The police arrested one person in the case.
