Lesley Maxwell is a personal trainer and world champion figure competitor from Australia who discovered weight training in her late 40s after being told she looked ‘frail’. Now, nearly two decades on, she feels ‘stronger than ever’
Lesley Maxwell was 48 when she began weightlifting, proving that a passion for fitness can develop well beyond your younger years. Now 65, the grandmother is still committed to building strength.
Her decision to pick up the weights came after her partner described her as looking “frail”. Rather than letting the remark knock her confidence, Lesley began a new chapter that would eventually see her become a personal trainer and world champion figure competitor. Refusing to let the criticism get the better of her, the grandmother took matters into her own hands and set about getting into the best shape of her life.
Following a frightening health scare that saw her hospitalised with pneumonia, Lesley knew it was time to make weightlifting a top priority.
Now nearly two decades on from that life-changing experience, the Melbourne-based coach has a profound appreciation for her body in all its glory.
In an Instagram post, Lesley, who often attracts men half her age, proudly showed off her impressive physique to her 144,000 followers, writing: “When you feel strong and healthy you feel sexy. End of story xo.”
She paired the post with a stunning image of herself wearing a leopard-print bikini, posing side-on to show off her well-defined muscles.
Lesley also let her striking blonde hair cascade over her shoulders, completing the look with immaculate makeup and a bold lip colour.
Since being shared, the post attracted considerable attention from admirers, with one writing: “You’re not just incredible, you’re sexy!”
Another commented: “So gorgeous as always!” while a third posted: “Couldn’t agree more you are the definition of sexy Lesley.”
Who is Lesley Maxwell?
Lesley is a fitness coach and world champion figure competitor from Australia. After being hospitalised with pneumonia and told she was “frail”, the grandmother discovered weight training in her late 40s.
Just a year after taking up fitness, Lesley claimed her very first figure competition title at the age of 49. She has since accumulated over 30 bodybuilding and figure titles throughout her career.
It was in 2009 that she claimed first place and earned her pro card at the WNBF/INBF World Championships in New York, US. She continued to compete into her late 50s and now into her 60s, including a victory at the ICN Open Classics in 2019.
Alongside running her own coaching business through Lesley Maxwell Fitness, she has also authored numerous fitness guides and books, including Get The Body You Want.
She predominantly opts for heavy weightlifting over conventional cardio, training approximately 4-5 times per week. When it comes to her diet, she focuses on clean, nutrient-dense eating, placing emphasis on high protein intake and healthy fats.
While she may be widely recognised as the “fit gran who attracts men half her age”, there is far more to her than that. She regularly works out alongside her daughter, Vanessa, and her marketing entrepreneur granddaughter, Tia Christofi, who is in her 20s.
The social media influencer is equally candid about her love life, having previously stated that she favours younger men who are better suited to her active lifestyle and energy levels.
