Five Reasons Nebraska Will Win: Illinois

Well, it’s November. The Huskers are 5-3 and just need one more win to once again become bowl eligible.

Some of you may have counted them out after the soul crushing path these last few games have led us down, but I haven’t!

This week is about redemption. This week the Huskers are going to come out on fire and cruise their way to win number six.

These are your reasons why:

#1 THE DEFENSE

The Husker defense has been the backbone of this team. They are the reason that the Huskers were still in the game and ahead in the fourth quarter in each of the last three games.

This defense will be sharp against a balanced Illinois attack and will be ready to cause some takeaways.

#2 RUNNING ROOM

Nebraska has not seen a lot of offense in the last three games. They’ve been low scoring and aside from a couple drives the Huskers have found it hard to move the ball. That changes this week. The offensive line is going to get a good push on the Illini defense and will give the running backs plenty of running room.

Also, for the Huskers to win, we are going to need to see more of Jamal Rule on the field. Isaiah Mozee and Mekhi Nelson do fine, but the rushing game was so much stronger with Rule leading the pack.

#3 Anthony Colandrea

Anthony Colandrea has been leading this team. He has done all he can to get this team to win. Last week was a rough one for him, he threw three interceptions. I think it’s hard to always blame the quarterback for those, when part of the problem is receivers not running the routes that they need to be.

Regardless of last week, Colandrea will be back on that field and he will be ready to lead this Husker team to a victory. He will be ready and we will be cheering for him as he dashes down field for a Husker touchdown.

#4 THE RULE OF THREES

Good and bad things come in threes. Illinois is on a three game winning streak, Nebraska is on a three game losing streak. Now that they have both accomplished those tasks in threes, they must switch and go the other direction. Therefore, Nebraska will win and Illinois will lose. It’s basic science and math really.

#5 IT’S FRIDAY NIGHT

Nebraska and Illinois are playing on a Friday night for their third consecutive meeting. The Huskers won the first game in 2023 20-7, Illinois won the second game 31-24 in overtime. It is only logical then that the Huskers will win the third one.

You know, because they are trading every other win. It’s something a polite team would do and I know Illinois is nothing if they aren’t polite.

I can’t wait to talk to you all next week when the Huskers are bowl eligible and looking for win #7.
