KAKINADA: Efforts of the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) to make Kakinada flex-free have seen limited success. This is mainly due to lack of cooperation from political parties and organisations. Officials said flex banners removed by civic teams are being replaced, making enforcement difficult. Residents had earlier lodged complaints through the Public Grievance Redressal System, stating that banners are a disturbance and also obstruct the visibility of motorists, leading to accidents. Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad directed civic officials to intensify the flex-free Kakinada drive after assuming charge. City Planning Department staff have been removing flexes daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Officials say new banners are frequently erected. Those objecting to flex end up facing threats. Citizen A.P.J. Vinu said he has submitted multiple complaints and identified 15 major locations, where banners were frequently installed, making them accident-prone spots. He said flexes divert motorists’ attention and create environmental concerns.- Officials say they are not able to take stringent action due to the involvement of influential leaders
