An inquest has found that Fontaines DC manager Trevor Dietz’s death in June at the age of 47 was by suicide. He had fallen from a height in East Sussex

The late manager of Fontaines DC died by suicide, an inquest has found. Trevor Dietz died in June at the age of 47 after a fall from height in East Sussex.

The manager, who had been described by the band as their “sixth member”, had been dealing with mental health issues. On Monday, East Sussex Coroner’s Court heard that he had felt “overwhelmed” by his mental health problems.

It was said he had become “increasingly distressed” by global events, particularly in Gaza. Away from music, he had been campaigning for Palestinian human rights and against genocide.

His sister, Helena Prentice, shared a statement, which was read out by the coroner. She said: “Throughout his life, he was passionate about humanitarian issues, particularly Palestine, and found it very difficult to accept the suffering of innocent people.”

She went on to say her brother was an “exceptionally intelligent, kind and compassionate man” and said he had experienced “recurrent anxiety” for many years.

The court also heard that Dietz had been talking with his GP and other mental health professionals about an ongoing anxiety disorder and suicidal thoughts. Assistant Coroner Rachel Redman revealed his cause of death was by suicide, saying he sustained multiple injuries in a fall from height.

She said:: “He clearly was really, really dedicated and devoted to his band and it seemed to be a mutual feeling. I’m sure that they and all of the musicians he worked with, will be lost without him.”

His band released a heartbreaking statement shortly after news of his death broke. At the time, they wrote: “We are utterly heartbroken to let you know that on Sunday June 7th we lost our dear friend and manager Trevor.

“Trevor was beside us from the beginning of our journey as a band, we have never known Fontaines DC without him, the sixth member of the band. He cared passionately for us and for what was fair and right in the wider world. He was fearless in his beliefs. We will miss him always.”

They ended by saying: “We ask that you kindly respect our privacy and that of his family at this terribly difficult time. RIP Trev.” Radio 1’s Jack Saunders also shared a tribute at the time. He said: “I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending lots of love to you and Trevor’s loved ones.” Annie Mac penned: “Sending all my love to you lads and to Trevor’s loved ones. Xxx.”

Nick Grimshaw penned: “So sorry to hear this news, sending you love.” And DJ and music producer, Krystal Klear added: “One of the all time greats. The reasons 100s of us in Dublin had a place to listen to the music that carved our entire future. I still can’t believe it. RIP Trev Radiator.”
