New Delhi: IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh on Friday said victory favours forces that anticipate changes in warfare and adapt, warning that waiting for changes to unfold could leave them behind.
Addressing a seminar on ‘Central Role of Air Power in the Evolving Battlespace’ at the Air Force Auditorium, he said the two major ongoing global conflicts and India’s experience during Operation Sindoor last year had underlined the primacy of air power.
In an era of rapidly evolving technology, anticipating changes in the character of warfare was essential, he said.
“… No force can win a war alone. It all depends on what the objectives are. There’s a need for joint communication; there is a need for joint planning and having integrated networks and integrated and joint training, which is very important,” he said.
Air Chief Marshal Singh stressed the need to build capability and capacity as technology became obsolete faster. Research and development and production needed to keep pace to ensure that systems remained relevant when adopted, he said.
“We need to produce fast, either through self-reliance or some partnership. Also, supply chains are very important. Supply chain disruption can cause havoc,” he said.
The seminar, hosted by a defence think tank at Subroto Park, was held alongside the multilateral air exercise Tarang Shakti, currently underway at Jodhpur Air Force Station in Rajasthan.
Seven foreign nations, including the US, France, Germany and Australia, are participating with their air assets in the second edition of the IAF-hosted exercise. The US F-35 multirole stealth fighter is taking part for the first time.
On Thursday, Air Chief Marshal Singh led celebrations marking the IAF’s 94th anniversary at Hindan Air Base in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. In his Air Force Day address, he said conflicts across the world had shown that air power was the primary means of protecting national interests.
