Joao Felix had a reasonably successful stint at Barcelona not too long ago, but did not impress the board enough to make his deal permanent.
Eventually, the player ended up moving to Saudi Arabia for the next stage in his career, and he has done relatively well at Al Nassr. His contract, however, runs out at the end of the season and he is looking for a return to Europe.

In that sense, there have been rumours that the player dreams of a move back to Catalonia as he hopes for a second chance to succeed at Barcelona.
Truth to the claims

As reported by Matteo Moretto on Radio MARCA in a recent update, it is indeed true that Joao Felix wants to return to Barcelona next summer.
The player does indeed have the Catalan institution as his preferred destination if he is to return to Europe after a spell in Asia, but the club do not reciprocate the same feeling.
From Barcelona’s perspective, there is simply no place in the current team to accommodate the Portuguese international and it is very unlikely that the return works out.

While the team’s current situation is indeed one of the driving forces behind their decision, it is also true that the player did not really set the stage on fire during his previous stint at the club. The expectations, after all, are perpetually sky-high at Barcelona.
Loaded with options

While the Portuguese starlet is indeed capable of playing in a multitude of positions including second-striker, attacking midfield, centre-forward and the left wing, Barcelona are simply overloaded with options in all the departments.

The left-wing department already sees Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi fighting for a starting spot, while the attacking midfield has Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez in a similar tussle.
Adding Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus and others to that list, the Catalans have a stacked attacking department and Felix would not offer anything the club currently do not possess.
In that sense, the player’s dream of returning to the club could well remain unfulfilled. Needless to say, however, there is a good chance he can complete his dream of returning to Europe in some other capacity.
