This latest development comes ahead of June’s 2026 PWHL Draft and follows the announcement of the 2026 Expansion Player Distribution Process, with the six-phase process/structure to begin on June 2 and the offseason open signing period starting on June 19. As previously reported by The Sporting News, Meghan Duggan was named the GM of PWHL Hamilton. Accordingly, she will be tasked with building a hockey operations staff and leading the roster building process.

Duggan was made available to the media on the May 28 press conference, and said her unique and diverse background within the sport of hockey has allowed her to approach her new position as a PWHL GM with a more well-versed skillset.

“I think the way that I look at this is I’m going to take my knowledge from all the different areas of my life, whether it was my playing career, leading teams as a captain, my coaching career, my kind of front office executive career in the NHL — I’m going to take my consulting career with PWHL, I’m going to take snippets from all of that and try to really just dive in and do this my way and Hamilton’s way,” Duggan said to the media.

She has worked with the PWHL as a whole since 2024.

In addition, Duggan is one of the most decorated players in U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team history —winning eleven medals at three Winter Olympics (one gold, two silver) and eight IIHF Women’s World Championships (seven gold, one silver).

Duggan additionally served as the captain of the gold medal-winning squad at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

“I’ve learned along the way from a lot of different areas and I hope that that’s going to lead me in the right direction. I’m confident that it will,” Duggan also said on how being a player, NHL and PWHL former staffer will only help her throughout her latest journey as Hamilton’s GM. “It’s been a great process in these last couple of weeks, getting up and running, and I expect it to continue to be over these next couple weeks as we put a great roster together.”

The Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge and Toronto Sceptres were the first official monikers for the PWHL. The PWHL has now expanded to 12 total teams following the announcement of Hamilton’s expansion in addition to the previously mentioned Detroit, Las Vegas and San Jose.

As a whole, the PWHL saw widespread attendance, ticket and fan growth throughout the 2025-26 season due to an increased league interest and the gold-medal success of USA Hockey in the most recent Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
