Blake Hinson is willing to do anything in order to keep his spot on an NBA roster — and he means anything.

Hinson was Pitt’s top scorer during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, but he has learned to embrace the switch from offensive engine to complementary player at the next level. After failing to carve out a role with the Lakers, Warriors and Trail Blazers, Hinson took advantage of an opportunity in Utah, averaging 11.9 points across 14 games last season.
Now, the challenge for Hinson is showing the Jazz that he deserves a permanent spot on the roster. He had a strong showing in the team’s first preseason game, scoring 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field with six rebounds.
However, the most memorable part of his preseason performance came during the postgame interview. When asked to assess the early rotations and how the group works together, Hinson responded, “I can help however.”
“I can go get coffee,” Hinson said. “I can maybe make a shot. I can talk to somebody. I can watch your dog. I just want to be a part of the program.”
The Jazz probably won’t ask Hinson to launch a dog walking business. They would like to keep watching him sink 3-pointers, though.
