Former Vinukonda CI Dismissed Over Rape Case

Former Vinukonda circle inspector Chinna Mallaiah has been dismissed from service following his involvement in a rape case. Guntur Range IGP Sarvashreshth Tripathi issued orders on Wednesday removing the former CI from the police department. Chinna Mallaiah was booked in a rape case in April 2026 based on a complaint lodged by a woman. Following an investigation, he was placed under suspension.

Police said the former officer later went absconding and subsequently approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail. However, his plea was dismissed. The dismissal comes amid ongoing legal proceedings in the case.

2 youths killed in hit-and-run on Mydukur highway

Two youths were killed and another seriously injured after an unidentified vehicle hit them on the Mydukur-Badvel National Highway near G.V. Satram in Mydukur mandal of Kadapa district on Wednesday.
According to police, the accident occurred when three youths from G.V. Satram village were out for a morning walk along the highway. A speeding vehicle rammed into them and fled the scene.
One youth died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at the Government Hospital in Mydukur. The deceased were identified as Sumanth, 25, and Madan Gopal, 25, both residents of G.V. Satram.
The injured youth, Vijay, was shifted to a hospital in Proddatur for advanced treatment.
Police moved the bodies to the Government Hospital in Proddatur for post-mortem. A case was registered and efforts are underway to trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

Charred body of woman found near Jonnawada

The charred body of an unidentified woman was found near Jonnawada in SPSR Nellore district on Wednesday, triggering concern among local residents.
According to police, passers-by noticed the woman engulfed in flames near a bridge over the Penna river and alerted authorities. By the time help arrived, she had succumbed to her injuries.
Police said preliminary findings, supported by an eyewitness account, suggest the woman may have died by suicide. Rasool, a technician with the 108 ambulance service, told investigators that he saw the woman in flames and crying in pain around 10.30 am.
Nellore Rural DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao said police were examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the woman’s movements and ascertain the source of the fuel used.
The body was shifted for post-mortem examination. A case was registered and further investigation is underway.

2 TTD ticket fraudsters arrested

The Tirupati district police have arrested two persons, including a former TTD employee, who cheated devotees by promising Srivani tickets, special darshan, sevas and accommodation in Tirumala.

Meanwhile, a traffic policeman won wholesome praise for returning a lost bag to its owner. It carried a gold mangalsutra worth ` 4.5 lakh.

In the fraud case, the Tirumala 2-Town police arrested Male Shankaraiah, 47, a dismissed TTD mazdoor, and Moode Venkataramana Naik, 48, of Kollafarm village in Annamayya district. The two collected money from devotees by promising them Srivani tickets, Arjitha Sevas, accommodation and special darshan arrangements.

The case came to light after a Vijayawada-based devotee, Mallikarjuna Rao, complained that the accused collected `51,800 from him, promising Srivani tickets and accommodation for his family, but failed to provide both.

The accused were arrested at the Mullagunta car-parking in Tirumala and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. Police seized `11,800 in cash, two Android mobile phones and bank passbooks from their possession.

Investigators found that Shankaraiah used to pose as a TTD employee. He contacted devotees over the phone, collected money from them, then switched off his mobile and disappeared. He was previously involved in similar cheating cases.

In the incident highlighting police integrity, Tirumala traffic head constable GV Rao traced and returned a lost bag belonging to Sunil Kumar of Hubballi, Karnataka, who came for Srivari darshan with his family. The bag, found near PAC-3, contained a gold mangalsutra weighing about 30 grams and valued at around ` 4.5 lakh, along with some family documents.

Debt-trapped woman ends life after poisoning kids

A woman and her 10-year-old son died after allegedly consuming poison in M. Birepalli village of Hindupur mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district, with police suspecting financial distress as the trigger for the tragedy.

According to police, Mahalakshmi (40), reportedly burdened by mounting debts and family responsibilities, allegedly administered poison to her two children before consuming it herself.

Mahalakshmi and her son Rishi died, while her 12-year-old daughter Srinidhi survived and is undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Anantapur.

Sources said Mahalakshmi was the family’s sole breadwinner as her husband had been unwell. She reportedly earned a livelihood by selling products in Hindupur but was unable to cope with debts owed to private lenders.

Police registered a case and launched an investigation. The bodies were shifted to the Hindupur Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Man held for threatening kin with gun

A man was arrested for allegedly threatening his relative with a country-made gun following a family dispute at Kona village in Machilipatnam mandal of Krishna district on Wednesday.

According to police, G. Nageswara Rao had a dispute with his pregnant wife, Jayasree, and allegedly attempted to attack her on Tuesday evening. When his relative, Bala Sivanagaraju, intervened and reprimanded him, Rao allegedly threatened to kill him with the firearm.

Based on a complaint lodged by Sivanagaraju, Machilipatnam police registered a case and arrested the accused. Police launched an investigation.
