
Ongole: Prakasam district police have arrested four persons, including a resident of Nellore, for their alleged involvement in a daytime house burglary at Maddipadu and recovered 157.5 gram of gold ornaments worth Rs 18 lakh, Rs 51,000 in cash, and the Innova car used in the crime.
The accused have been identified as Gopishetty Sunil, 48, of Ramakrishna Nagar, Kondayapalem Gate, Nellore; Thammi Shetty Anand, 19, and Thammi Shetty Venkateswarlu, 25, both residents of Madala village in Palnadu district; and Malamanthi Sai Kumar, 33, originally from Obulapuram village in NTR district and currently residing at Mylavaram.
According to police, the accused, allegedly addicted to alcohol and other vices, targeted a locked house at Paipalem in Maddipadu village on July 23 after noticing that the occupants had gone to Ongole. They allegedly broke open the door and stole gold ornaments from a cupboard. The case was registered at Maddipadu Police.
Police said the accused, who had become acquainted in jail, conspired to commit burglaries after hiring an Innova car. Special teams led by Ongole DSP R. Srinivasa Rao, Ongole Rural CI M. Seshagiri Rao, and Maddipadu SI G. Venkata Surya used technical surveillance to trace the vehicle and arrested the accused near Gundlapalli village.
The police recovered the stolen gold ornaments, cash, and the vehicle used in the offence. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen jewellery, reportedly pledged at an IDFC Bank branch in Narasaraopet. SP V. Harshavardhan Raju commended the investigating team for swiftly solving the case and recovering the stolen property.
