MASON — Here is quick reaction from Mason football recording its first shutout of the season with a 49-0 victory over Fenton in a Division 3 district final on Friday, Nov. 6.

Peters has seven carries for 185 yards, which included a 25-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and scoring runs from 71 and 46 yards in the third quarter. Key moment
Trailing 14-0, Fenton opted to go for it on fourth=and-4 from the Mason 15-yard line with just under 5 minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Tigers failed to convert a fourth down on the second straight drive — they had a fake punt pass attempt intercepted by Brett Camp — and Mason turned it into points when Gerrit Koot connected with Gavin Greathouse for a 22-yard TD with 1:39 left in the first quarter. That scored pushed Mason’s lead to 21-0.
What it means
Mason captured its sixth district title in program history and fifth in six seasons with its latest victory. The Bulldogs improved to 10-1 and reached double digits in victories in a season for the fifth time. Mason now will have the opportunity to capture the fifth regional championship in program history when it travels to face Southeastern Conference White champion Chelsea next week. Chelsea (11-0) beat Redford Thurston, 51-14, in its district final Friday.

Quotable
“That’s the great message that these kids have taken on that this is the standard. This is where we are as a program now that we should be in this position to compete for districts, regionals and hopefully we’re competing for a state title too.” Mason coach Gary Houghton on his program’s recent run of district championships
