Nalgonda police on Friday arrested four persons in connection with the murder of four members of a family at Telangana Colony in Nalgonda town on June 19.

The accused were identified as Syed Aslam (28), his wife Tabassum (28), both residents of Fakath Nagar, Mohammed Sohail (26) of Bandlaguda and Hemanth Kumar (28) owner of a Jewellery Shop in Saroor Nagar of Hyderabad.

Addressing a press conference at the District Police Office, Superintendent of Police Sharath Chandra Pawar said Sultan (45), his wife Haseena (40), their son Muzammil (20) and daughter Afsara (11) were found murdered in their house on June 22. Seven police teams were formed to investigate the case.

According to the SP, Tabassum is the daughter of Tahira Begum, the sister of Haseena. Aslam had borrowed `1 lakh from Haseena at a high rate of interest. When he later sought another loan, Haseena allegedly refused and demanded repayment of the earlier amount, leading to frequent disputes.

Police said Tabassum learnt from Haseena’s daughter that cash and gold ornaments were kept in the house. She and Aslam allegedly conspired to steal them. In February, Aslam and Sohail allegedly broke into the locked house but failed to find any valuables.

According to the investigation, Aslam entered the house by scaling the compound wall at about 2 am on June 19 and hid inside. At around 5 am, he allegedly attacked Haseena with a knife when she came out to use the bathroom. Sultan, who came to her rescue, was also stabbed to death. Their son Muzammil was then attacked, while Afsara, who hid under a bed, was allegedly dragged out and killed.

Police said Aslam fled with about five tolas of gold ornaments and land documents from the house.

During the investigation, police found that Aslam had allegedly watched YouTube videos on escaping after committing murder and avoiding arrest before carrying out the crime.

The SP said Aslam, with Sohail’s help, pledged the stolen gold with Hemanth Kumar and obtained `5.3 lakh.

Acting on credible information, police arrested the four accused near the Narketpally flyover and seized `3 lakh in cash, five tolas of gold ornaments and the knife allegedly used in the crime.

Four held in ₹1.46 crore matrimony fraud

Cybercrime police of Hyderabad Commissionerate have arrested four people for facilitating a ₹1.46 crore matrimony-cum-investment fraud in which a victim was cheated through a fake online investment platform. Investigation revealed that the money was transferred through multiple accounts before being sent to Singapore-based cyber fraudsters through hawala channels.
The accused, identified as Chokkala Sampath from Siddipet, Hechu Naresh, Endla Suresh and Vadkala Mahesh all from Secunderabad were arrested for their alleged involvement in operating mule bank accounts used to route fraudulent funds.
The case came to light after the cybercrime police received a complaint on February 13 from a victim who was targeted through a matrimonial fraud scheme. The accused allegedly impersonated a woman on the Sangam matrimony platform and established a relationship with the victim by promising marriage.
The victim was persuaded to invest in a fake investment platform with promises of high returns. Initially, the fraudsters displayed fabricated profits on the platform to gain the victim’s confidence. Believing the investment was genuine, the victim transferred ₹46.65 lakh into multiple bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. When the victim attempted to withdraw the invested amount, the accused demanded additional charges and eventually blocked access to the funds.
Realising that he had been cheated, the victim approached the police, following which Cybercrime Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the investigation, police traced the money trail and identified several beneficiary mule bank accounts spread across Telangana and Maharashtra. A total of ₹35 lakh of the cheated amount was found to have been routed through accounts maintained with Indian Overseas Bank. Police found that the arrested accused acted as intermediaries by arranging and managing these accounts to facilitate illegal fund transfers.
According to police, Sampath operated mule accounts based on instructions from an absconding handler linked to higher-level cyber fraud operators and received a 30 per cent commission for his role. Naresh assisted in opening mule accounts and withdrawing funds, receiving a 15 per cent commission on deposits routed through the accounts he managed. Suresh and Mahesh performed similar roles by arranging accounts and facilitating withdrawals, receiving commissions of 10 per cent each.
The arrests were carried out by the cybercrime police team under the supervision of ACP Siva Maruthi and led by inspector K. M. Raghavendra, along with supporting personnel.
