Hosapete: Four persons, including three members of a family, were killed and 20 others injured in a chain accident on National Highway-50 near Danapur village in Vijayanagara district on Sunday morning.

Six of the injured have been shifted to Koppal district hospital for advanced treatment, while others are undergoing treatment at Hosapete district hospital.
Superintendent of Police S Jahnavi visited the spot.
The mishap occurred around 8.30 am when a garlic-laden lorry, allegedly driven rashly, triggered a series of collisions. Sources said the victims, H Durugappa (55) of Thimmalapura and Sujata (40) of Kitnur, died on the spot. Sujata’s father, Nagappa (80), and brother Kotresh (22), who were admitted to a hospital in Koppal, succumbed to injuries later.
The victims were travelling on two motorcycles to Kampli to see a prospective bride for Kotresh when the accident took place.
According to police, the lorry, which was transporting garlic, had earlier hit a motorcycle near MSPL Cross, about three kilometres from the main accident spot. It then rammed into a car and a truck near the approach to the bridge at Danapur before crashing into the rear of a state transport bus.
The impact pushed the bus into an oncoming container lorry, leaving over 20 passengers injured. The lorry also hit two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction.
Police and fire personnel, with the help of cranes, cleared the mangled vehicles and restored traffic. A case has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
