“We tried for a couple of years, and it didn’t happen. We were talking with doctors, and they suggested surrogacy.” 

In February 2021, their third son, Maximus Freeman, was born through surrogacy. But in a surprising twist, Chelsea had also become pregnant naturally around the same time. Freddie Freeman and Chelsea Freeman revealed that their youngest son, Maximus Freeman, had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition where the immune system attacks the nerves. Max suddenly lost the ability to sit, stand, or walk. He was rushed to the emergency room and spent eight days in the ICU. During that time, the couple shared updates through Instagram. In one message, they said:

“These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives. Maximus is such a special boy and he has been fighting so hard.”

By September 2024, there was a positive moment. Max returned to Dodger Stadium to watch his dad play against the Cleveland Guardians. The Dodgers’ official Instagram account welcomed him back with a message: “Good to have you back, Max!” At the same time, Freddie Freeman continued to perform on the field. In October 2024, he helped the Dodgers win the World Series and was named MVP. Chelsea and their kids were there to celebrate with him, showing how the family stayed strong during both tough and happy times.
