THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 17-year-old boy was reportedly killed by a friend following a dispute over a romantic relationship in Sreekaryam within the city limits.
The deceased has been identified as Abhiram, a resident of Sreekaryam. His body was discovered inside a sack on Monday. Police have launched an investigation and taken three of his friends into custody in connection with the murder.
Abhiram had been missing since Sunday afternoon, prompting the Sreekaryam police to register a missing person case. During the investigation, police recovered an Instagram chat from his mobile phone. The conversation indicated that a girl had asked him to meet her at a specific location, which Abhiram reportedly believed was from his girlfriend.
However, the account was allegedly created by one of his friends, who was also interested in the same girl. This friend used the fake account to lure Abhiram to the location, accompanied by another mutual friend. All three boys are 17 years old. According to the police, an argument broke out between them and quickly turned violent. The friend demanded that Abhiram end his pursuit of the girl. When Abhiram questioned what the friend would do if he continued the relationship, the exchange escalated into a confrontation that allegedly resulted in his murder.
The police have not yet determined the exact manner in which Abhiram was killed. Investigators are working to uncover additional details of the crime. The case, initially filed as a missing-person report, has now been updated to include murder charges. This brutal act has caused widespread alarm in the area.
