Jay-Z is to be the halftime entertainment for the 2027 Super Bowl, but the announcement has been met with criticism by some fans

Jay-Z has been revealed as next year’s main Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper will take to the stage during the interval as the headliner for Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stafium in California.

The news was confirmed in a short black-and-white clip that was shown during halftime on Monday in the game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.

In clip showed Jay-Z sitting in the stands of a stadium. Above him were the words “Goat’s out of the bag”. The news comes as the star and his Roc Nation signed a huge deal with the NFL to look over the display. The initial contract was signed in 2019 and was renewed in 2024 and is worth $5 million-a-year.

But the decision wasn’t well received from all quarters. Some online users were fuming with the decision. “Another poor decision by Jay-Z for the Super Bowl Half Time show,” raged one user on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another wrote: “Jay Z is performing the Super Bowl halftime???? That’s going to be awful!” And a third said: “ESPNNFL Get Jay Z out of our Super Bowl entertainment. So awful.”

Others, however, were quick to defend the announcement. One user wrote: “JAY-Z is about to set a whole new standard for Super Bowl halftime viewership!!!

“After selling out SoFi Stadium TWICE and bringing that kind of energy, you already know the whole world will be watching. Fans, critics, and even the haters will be tuned in. Everybody is going to want to see what he has planned. This will be HUGE!!!”

It will mark Jay-Z’s first performance at the Super Bowl. His wife, Beyonce did however entertain at the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans.

She also returned as a special guest alongside Bruno Mars as Coldplay headlined in 2016 in Santa Clara.

Last year, following Bad Bunny performing part of his set away from English, Jay Z discussed the process behind the decision making. He told GQ: “I think everyone should experience music in its totality.

“And for a lot of years, it was only one side of music that was being represented. We got the opportunity to create a more balanced idea of what popular music is today.

“I’m not going out on a limb, this is the most famous people in the world. I didn’t pick, like, the indie artist that I really like from Portland – It’s the number one most streamed artist in the world. Him!’
